A $400,000 spaceship with wings. The Velocity XL RG is the pinnacle of homebuilt aviation — a canard composite aircraft capable of 200+ knot cruise, four seats, and retractable gear. Built by pilots, for pilots who refuse to compromise.
Every dimension engineered for maximum performance. The XL RG isn't just fast — it's a precision instrument.
All-fiberglass/epoxy construction. Canard foreplane for positive stall protection. No conventional tail.
Cruise at 200+ KTAS. Vne pushes past 220 knots. A piston aircraft that laughs at turboprops.
2,900 lbs MTOW. Payload for four adults plus baggage — no sacrifices.
100+ gallon usable capacity enables non-stop continental crossings with reserves.
The Velocity XL RG is a canard pusher configuration — meaning the small foreplane (canard) provides pitch control instead of a conventional tail. It's the same layout Burt Rutan used on VariEze, and it produces one critical safety advantage: the canard stalls first, pushing the nose down and preventing a dangerous main-wing stall.
The result is a naturally stall-resistant aircraft that also happens to be one of the sleekest machines ever to roll out of a homebuilt hangar. Rear-mounted engine, clean wing, no visual clutter — just pure forward velocity.
Velocity Aircraft Inc. →Canard stalls before main wing. Pitch down, not up.
Engine behind pilot. Clean nose. Better CG. Less noise.
Fiberglass/epoxy airframe. Light, stiff, corrosion-free.
Hydraulic retractable gear. Clean 200-kt cruise profile.
The XL RG consistently outperforms certified aircraft costing two to three times its price. Here's how it stacks up.
Built under FAA Amateur-Built Experimental rules. Avionics, engine, and airframe choices are YOUR decisions. No STC bureaucracy. Maximum configuration freedom.
A serious commitment — typically 2,000–4,000 hours in the workshop. The reward: complete understanding of every rivet, bond line, and system on your aircraft.
Thousands of builders worldwide. Forums, fly-ins, mentorship programs, and factory support from Velocity Aircraft, Inc. in Sebastian, Florida. You're never building alone.
