Vin Diesel Vin Diesel — The Fast Saga

Mark Sinclair.
Known as Vin Diesel.

Born Mark Sinclair on July 18, 1967 in Alameda County, California, raised in New York City by his mother and adoptive father Irving Vincent — a theatre director who gave him his first taste of the stage at age seven. The streets of Greenwich Village shaped the man; the stage shaped the performer.

He wrote, directed, and starred in his own short film, Multi-Facial (1994), a semi-autobiographical piece about a biracial actor struggling to find roles in Hollywood. Steven Spielberg saw it at Cannes and cast him in Saving Private Ryan. The rest is franchise history.

What sets Diesel apart is his producer instinct. He didn't just star in the Fast & Furious — he shepherded it. He lobbied Universal to bring back the original cast, pushed for larger budgets, and protected the character of Dom Toretto from scripts that would have diluted him. The franchise is as much his creation as anyone's.

Off-screen: three children with his partner Paloma Jiménez. Passionately devoted to Dungeons & Dragons — a lifelong game he played long before it was cool, and credits with teaching him storytelling. He is, genuinely, a nerd in an action hero's body.

The Gospel of Dom

Groot — Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)  ·  Voiced by Vin Diesel

"No matter where you are — whether it's a quarter mile away or halfway across the world — you'll always be with me. And you'll always be my brother."

Dominic Toretto — Furious 7 (2015)
